From a local fashion exhibition to Singapore-inspired bakes and ‘shiok’ frappuccinos, here’s a roundup of patriotic things to do on National Day week
EXHIBITION
Singapore fashion on display
#SGFashionNow
Design, culture and fashion enthusiasts can look forward to the Asian Civilisation Museum’s first display of contemporary Singapore fashion influenced by Asia’s melting pot of cultures.
Forged through a tripartite collaboration between ACM, LaSalle College of the Arts’ School of Fashion, and the Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFF), #SGFashionNow will feature Singapore Stories 2020 winner Carol Chen’s creation alongside other established Asia designers such as Lai Chan, Andrew Gn and Priscilla Shunmugam. Now on till Dec 19, #SGFashionNow is free at ACM’s lobby.
The exhibition will also be supported by a mix of onsite and online pro- grammes such as online forum, Conversations — Singapore Fashion, Now (Aug 13, 3pm to 4pm), featuring panellists involved in the exhibition who will talk about how we can champion and support local design initiatives. Watch it live on ACM’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.
EAT
Milo Dinosaur Cream Puff
Baristart Coffee
For those of you who love the decadent deliciousness of a Milo Dinosaur — a drink best consumed at your local kopitiam — here’s another way to enjoy it: in bun form. In conjunction with National Day, Baristart Coffee is tapping into Milo’s taste of nostalgia with a limited edition Milo Dinosaur Cream Puff filled with a rich Milo custard made from the same Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk in Baristart’s cream puffs. Supposedly, the Japanese cafe came up with this flavour in response to a growing Milo trend in Japan right now where people are paying premium prices for a cuppa of our fave childhood drink. The National Day Milo Dinosaur Cream Puff ($6) is available at Baristart Coffee from Aug 9–31 at one piece per customer.
