Based on Alexandre Dumas fils’ landmark novel La Dame aux Camélias, Lady of the Camellias tells the tragic tale of a beautiful courtesan whose life of debauchery takes a turn when she falls in love with a young man from a well-to-do family. Featuring some of the most beautiful pas de deux (dance duet) set to the romantic piano music of Frederic Chopin, this debut presentation is directed by John Neumeier, the artistic director and chief choreographer of the Hamburg Ballet.

“For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” Shakespeare’s classic tale comes to life in this ballet produced by the Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) with music by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. The classic tale of family, love and tragedy is condensed into an hour-long special told through narration and dance excerpts spiced with elements of drama, swordplay and humour. This production of Romeo and Juliet is created by renowned Singaporean choreographer Choo-San Goh and staged by Janek Schergen, the theatre’s artistic director.
