TAG Heuer’s link to the silver screen is not new. Notable films featuring TAG Heuer watches include 2023’s Gran Turismo, where Orlando Bloom’s Danny Moore sports the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph in blue and steel; the 1971 cult classic Le Mans, with Steve McQueen wearing the TAG Heuer Monaco; and 2002’s The Bourne Identity, where Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne is seen with the TAG Heuer Link.

One movie that has almost been overlooked for highlighting the TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch is 2013’s Locke, where the protagonist, played by Tom Hardy, prominently showcases the watch. It is hard to miss the watch, as a significant portion of this British-American thriller is filmed inside a car. Tom Hardy’s left wrist, prominently on the steering wheel, receives as much attention as the actor himself.

Every great movie starts with an idea; as for the Aquaracer, this happened with the introduction of the third generation of the 2000 Series in 1998. This collection was divided into three lines: the 2000 Classic, the 2000 Exclusive and the 2000 Sport models.

The 2000 Classic timepieces retained the traditional aesthetic of the 2000 Series, whereas the 2000 Exclusive models showcased a bolder design, featuring a heavier and sturdier bezel, restyled hands and oversized numerals positioned at six, nine and 12 on the dial.

Before it was known as the Aquaracer, the watch was called the 2000 Sport. It debuted with an aluminium bezel and lume-filled numerals around the dial. The 2000 Sport models drew on design elements from the earliest Heuer dive watches, featuring traditional Mercedes-style hands and a striking red and black bezel. Although the 2000 Sport series was discontinued in 2002, it returned in 2004 as the 2000 Aquaracer, marking the fourth generation of the 2000 Series dive watches.

The Aquaracer is renowned for its ruggedness; its rich heritage continues in this year’s novelties, such as the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional Date 300 and GMT models. With its bidirectional rotating bezel for the GMT versions, screw-down crown, 300-meter water resistance, luminescence and double safety clasp, it is a companion for deep-sea explorers and high-altitude adventurers.

Diver’s delight
Made for today’s divers, the Aquaracer Professional 300 stands out with its 12-facet ceramic bezel, which facilitates effortless turning and luminescent markers, which ensure precision at any depth. The case backs proudly display engravings of diving helmets, symbolising their aquatic connection.

However, the watch is not just for divers; it is also designed for adventure seekers. It focuses on legibility, smooth handling and comfort for all types of adventures. These are achieved with an updated minute track and a more prominent hour hand, complemented by a shield-shaped design.

Meanwhile, the second hand and the wave pattern on the dial capture the spirit of aquatic exploration. Introducing a case with reworked proportions, such as transitioning from 43mm to 42mm, may be minute, but it makes a lot of difference to the ergonomics and comfort of this timepiece.

The GMT’s colour palette of blue and black, or green and black, reflects the elements of sky, land and ocean. The two-tone bezel, made from scratch-resistant ceramic, displays a 24-hour GMT scale that lets the wearer distinguish day from night at a glance. The GMT hand, featuring a blue or green lacquered finish and a luminous tip, adds functionality and boldness.

The Aquaracer Professional 300 Date and GMT models share ergonomic similarities; from the reimagined crown for enhanced grip to the rotating bezel, every detail is deliberate to elevate your tactile experience. Whether dealing with the heat that may cause the wrist to swell or gearing up for an underwater adventure, this watch serves as a partner that can adapt to the unique needs of every wearer.
