SINGAPORE (Nov 12): Imagine doing your work ensconced in a comfortable, high-back office chair with useful touches such as power plugs and USB ports. The Plenum by Republic of Fritz Hansen and designed by Jaime Hayon offers all this and more.

Spaniard Hayon is internationally known for his fun and functional designs. His creative genius is evident in the Plenum. Shades of pink, blue and camel lend warmth to the chair while the chair’s traditional square shape has been given a softer edge. Hayon says his designs are made for humans, to be used by humans. “I believe that design should provoke emotions. Design should make you feel good and, most of all, create happiness.”

Not just for the home, the Plenum is designed to fulfil the needs of any modern working space. The chairs are ideal for an open office concept, airport lounge or hotel lobby where one can work in privacy, shielded from the comings and goings of the place. This is made possible by the cocoon-like design created by the wraparound high back rest.

The Plenum is Hayon’s first piece of contract furniture with Fritz Hansen. He designed a one-, two- and three-seater sofa set that features everything a modern workplace needs. Hayon explains: “In creating Plenum, the overall objective was to challenge the concept of traditional office furniture and create a feeling of home.”

As we spend more hours working, it is crucial that we use a chair that supports the spine. Conveniences such as a USB port and power points on the piece of furniture add to its functionality. Tables, whether attached or not, are available to provide an alternative to working with your computer resting on your lap. The Plenum is meant to leave you to concentrate on the task at hand. And that it does, beautifully.
