SINGAPORE (May 4): Advertising on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook may come under threat in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

In March, the political consultancy was found to have obtained the private data of 87 million Facebook users without their consent.

The incident sparked outrage and invoked calls to end widespread data collection on social media platforms.
