SINGAPORE (Dec 6): Singapore will reach a critical demographic crossroads next year, says UOB Research.

For the first time in Singapore’s modern history, 2018 will be the year where the percentage of residents who are above 65 years of old will be equal to that those below 15 years of old at 14%, says UOB economist Francis Tan in a Wednesday report.

To make matters worse, the gap will only widen as Singapore moves into the next decade and beyond.
