SINGAPORE (June 26): Singapore has moved up one place from last year to No.4 on the list of most expensive city for expatriate assignments, according to the latest findings from consulting firm Mercer’s 24th annual Cost of Living survey.

In a Tuesday release, Mercer notes that the city state’s position is closely followed by other Asian cities such as Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing at fifth, seventh and ninth place, respectively.

Hong Kong notably emerged as the most expensive city for expat living both in Asia and globally, overtaking Luanda as it fell to sixth place on the global rankings due to the weakening of the latter’s local currency, although it remains the highest ranking city in Africa.
