SINGAPORE (Feb 8): Singaporeans are urged to avoid all non-essential travel to the Maldives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a travel advisory on Tuesday.

The Maldives Government has declared a state of emergency for 15 days effective from Monday. Security forces have been deployed in Malé due to ongoing political developments.

"In view of the unstable situation in the Maldives, Singaporeans are advised to defer all non-essential travels to the Maldives until the situation stabilises. Singapore has no diplomatic representation in the Maldives which constrains our ability to extend consular assistance in an emergency," says MFA.
