Indonesia-based agri-food company Japfa has announced another delivery of more than 32,000 live chickens to Singapore.

The chickens were raised in Bintan by Japfa, which also operates pig farms in Vietnam and other farming operations in China and Myanmar.

The shipment on Sept 1 follows the successful exports in May and July. With this shipment, a total of more than 91,000 live birds have been exported by Japfa to Singapore from Indonesia.

Singapore has been diversifying its food sources since the pandemic. The import of live chickens, largely from Malaysia, was hit by a ban between May and October 2022.

“With this shipment we take a further step towards the regular supply of fresh chicken to Singapore from Indonesia," says Japfa's CEO Tan Yong Nang.

"As a leading industrialised agri-food player, with headquarters in Singapore, Japfa has the capacity to meet Singapore’s demand and standards for chicken and we are proud to contribute to the country's food security strategy by providing local consumers with quality products," he adds.

Japfa shares closed at 24 cents on Aug 31, unchanged for the day and down 26.56% year to date.
