Khairani Afifi Noordin, assistant editor at The Edge Singapore, has been honoured with the Young Journalist Award at the Singapore Press Club (SPC) Awards 2023.
Khairani was one of the seven winners announced at the Club’s 51st Anniversary Press Ball. The awards were presented by guest of honour Dr Janil Puthucheary, senior minister of state, Ministry of Communications and Information. The event was held at Orchard Hotel on the evening of July 15.
In her awards citation, Khairani was recognised for unpacking investing opportunities in the blockchain, metaverse and Web3 industries, as well as her experience covering financial news on both sides of the Causeway.
“I am very honoured to be recognised among such talented individuals. I would like to thank my editors for their guidance and the rest of my team members for their support,” says Khairani.
Last year, Khairani’s cover story “Into the metaverse” was named Story of The Year at the 2022 Orb Awards organised by the Singapore Exchange S68 Group. The story was an in-depth review of the investing opportunities within the metaverse space.
The SPC Awards was launched last year in conjunction with the club’s 50th anniversary to acknowledge journalists and other media-related professionals who have excelled in their craft and whose work made an impact. It received support from sponsors Citibank Singapore, City Developments, Telum Media and Millennium Hotels and Resorts, among others.
The Straits Times’ Danson Cheong Jingfu also received the Young Journalist Award, while Money FM 89.3’s Rachel Adrienne Kelly was presented with the Sustainability Journalism Award. Two winners bagged the Young Digital Journalist Awards, namely Kontinentalist’s Loh Pei Ying and HeyKaki’s Lee Hee Ai.
The Young PR Professional Award — which recognises public relations talents who have displayed exemplary media relations skills — goes to Rachael De Foe of Redefy and Annabelle Lim of BCW Global.
The SPC had also inducted 15 more media veterans into its Singapore Media Industry Hall of Fame on top of the 50 inductees announced last year.
