Knot on their watch
Loewe is committed to preserving ancient crafts and has, for the fourth year running, collaborated with the wildlife campaign Knot On My Planet to create a limited-edition Elephant bag and donate 100% of the proceeds to the Elephant Crisis Fund. Working with the Kenyan non-profit Samburu Trust, this year’s basket bags are made from woven raffia and feature large colourful eyes hand-beaded by Samburu artisans. The craft has been passed from generation to generation, creating the vibrantly patterned collars, headdresses and jewellery which Samburu culture is known for. With different colours and patterns conveying specific meanings, the beads are traditionally used to mark important life events and create a rich visual language.

Local brands go green
When two local brands collaborate, good things happen — such as the team-up between Charles & Keith and Singapore Airlines to launch a limited-edition collection of bags and small leather goods. These items are reworked from materials gathered from retired aircraft. We love the Semi-Circle Crossbody Bag and Panelled Short Wallet in brown, brick and camel leather made from SIA’s Business Class seats. Fabrics from the Business Class cushion covers and bedsheets are used to line the bag and wallet, while blankets have been repurposed into dustbags. Each unique piece will be hot-stamped with the brands’ logos in gold on the inside, to remind the wearer of the story behind it.

One shining star
Adele returned to the stage with a spectacular concert at the BST Hyde Park Festival earlier this month. She belted out the tunes that made her famous, wearing a sparkling Louis Vuitton custom-made dress in silk mousseline embroidered with black mini-paillettes and sequins.

Tender is the night
Jo Malone London launches the Night Collection that embraces serenity with two scents in Lavender & Moonflower and Moonlit Camomile. Designed to inspire the evening, whether it’s enjoyed alone or shared with family and friends, Lavender & Moonflower embraces the evening with a soft, serene scent. Moonlit Camomile has an enchanting freshness of feathery English camomile leaves mingled with blue moonflowers. The collection includes pillow mist, candle, cologne and diffuser.

A global outlook
Fendi Couture Autumn/winter 2022 is based on the great big cities of the world, with Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan, as the starting point. Found fragments of kimono fabric from the 18th century gained new life as both recreations and reinterpretations in the collection. Kata yuzen — a painstaking hand printing and painting technique unchanged for many hundreds of years — is once again utilised for these fabrications. Made in Kyoto as traditional silk panels, here they are sliced and asymmetrically reformed in floor-length dress silhouettes. The cascading Acer palmatum leaves from the fabric design — named Ode to Autumn in the 1700s — find various forms throughout, particularly in the proliferation of delicate embroideries that reach a crescendo in the final tulle gowns of the collection.

Gone surfing
Not just wardrobe staples, fashion giant Celine has launched two surfboards: Black Longboard with Celine white logo and White Shortboard with a black logo. Both boards are made with resin and fibreglass. Take your pick and ride the waves on your next beach trip.

Go outside
With this exquisite piece of furniture by Baxter, you will want to spend all day outside. Baxter’s new outdoor line is inspired by the need to furnish the outdoors, to consider the “exterior” in its entirety. The research took several years and the results are created in-house together with some of Baxter’s signature designers. The collection includes seats, dormeuses, coffee tables and rugs that colonise the terrace, the garden, and go all the way to the poolside: Himba by Lazzeroni, Dharma and Narciso by Studiopepe, the 316 stainless steel pieces by Antonio Sciortino, along with the ceramic ones and the fabrics developed by the Style Office.
